3rd Georgia Infantry at
Second Manassas
(2nd Bull Run)

Chinn Ridge looking West. During Longstreets counter-attack of August 30, 1862, the 3rd Georgia came out of the woods to attack Union Gen. Sigel's troops on Chinn Ridge.

Chinn Ridge looking East. After pushing Sigel's men back, the 3rd Georgia moved on over Chinn Ridge and down to the woods at the foot of Henry Hill in the distance.

The final position of the 3rd Georgia was in the trees along the left side of this road. Union troops rallied on Henry Hill (to the left of the photo) and stopped Longstreet's assault. In the night, Pope's forces retreated to Washington. The battle was over. Photo is looking south, just west of the Sudley Road.
