Pvt. Frances Marion Bates enlisted in Co. E, 3rd Georgia Volunteer Infantry on June 6, 1861. Discharged August 15, 1862. Married Eliza Wren in 1868, who was a member of a theatrical family. Bates became an actor and moved to Australia and New Zealand in 1873. He died in Melbourne, Australia in 1879. A complete biography of Frank Bates is available on Terry Foenander's website.
